History

Lunch is Just Life was the name of a 'zine I used to publish in the 1980's. It was about food, mostly, and diners.

Recently I have been typing old notes on restaurants, and posting them in a journal so that other people can see them and we can discuss if we remember the places, and confirm if they still exist. I have been calling that "we never close."

Our "gluten-free" expert, Randy Russell, has been observing a strict wheat and gluten free diet since he was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1992 by Joseph A. Murray, MD, to whom Mr. Russell owes his life. Randy becomes quite rankled at accusations that his diet is the result of a current trend or fad, and to confront him with such a claim is a good way to get smacked in the face with a loaf of Wonderbread.

Mr. Russell's new project, here, is to darken the door of every not immediately evident gluten-free establishment, sandwich shop, pizza parlor, deli, chain restaurant, and hash house within an ever-increasing radius of where he is now, which happens to be Manhattan, New York, New York, USA.
